Emergency bridge over bridge

In early 2024, a flood hit the Dutch province of Limburg, near the city of Maastricht. The river Meuse burst its banks and a houseboat broke loose from its anchors. The boat was swept away by the strong current.

This houseboat collided with a nearby central pillar of a bridge. The pillar was damaged to such an extent that it became unstable. The bridge above was in danger of collapsing and could not be used by anyone.

Quick action by government, crane company and contractors provided a solution with an auxiliary structure built over the existing bridge to relieve the weak pier. The existing bridge deck was hoisted from this support, allowing the sagging pillar to be repaired. After a few weeks of repairs, the bridge deck was then replaced on the intermediate pillar and the bridge was saved.

Janson Bridging used its JSB-2 system to place a temporary bridge over the existing bridge, allowing the crane company to use strandjacks to temporary support the concrete deck of the bridge.
